Topside Error Codes
and Their Meaning

Below you will find help on first understanding the code and then what to do, if anything.

TOPSIDE ERROR CODES
Balboa Systems 1994-2001

Here's some help trying to figure out what that error means on your topside.

Topside CodeQuick ReasonExpanded ReasonFixParts Need
Sn1 or SnSensorThe high limit sensor is
out of normal acceptable
range
Replace High Limit SensorReplace OH Sensor
Sn2 or SnSensorTemperature Sensor is out of normal range. If water is NOT HOT replace Temp SensorReplace Temp Sensor
Flashing FLO or
Flashing FL
Water FlowWater flow sensor is not seeing adequate or any water flow. Unit will not turn on the heater.Determine IF water flow is sufficient. Try removing filters. Do YOU see water flow?If you do see water flow, replace flow switch or pressure switch.
If you do NOT see water flow, replace either circulation pump or #1 jet pump depending on model you have.
Solid FLO or Solid FL
Failed SwitchThe switch is not operating properly.Replace flow or pressure switch depending on model.Models with flow switch typically have a 24/7 circ pump. Models using larger 2 speed #1 Jet Pump have a pressure switch.
COL or COOL
Water TempTemp Sensor sees water is 20 degrees or more below set point. If water is heating, do nothing. Error will stop when water is at temp.If error persists and water isn't heating you have to determine why the spa isn't heating. Usually a heater issue. Sometimes a pcboard issue.
ICEWater TempSpa's temperature has fallen into dangerous temp.PC Boards are design to go into an emergency stance including turning one or more jet pumps on periodically to avoid the spa from freezing. If error persists and water isn't heating you have to determine why the spa isn't heating. Usually a heater issue. Sometimes a pcboard issue.
OHWater TempTemp Sensor sees water is 112 or higher.Unit will typically turn on jet(s) to lower the water temp through water movement.OH often indicates either the topside temp readout isn't correct (compare readout with real temp) OR the pcboard is ignoring what the temp sensor is saying. If that happens you normally must replace the pcboard. If the temperature on the topside is different that the real time temp, replace the temperature sensor.
During summers your unit can simply overheat due to solar heat. Try either changing filter times and length or prop the spa cover up to allow heat to escape.

OHSpa is over 112 degreesSpa's temperature is raising above acceptable range. Spa will shut down to cool down.Your spa should never go above 112. First common reason is water isn't that hot but temp or oh sensor has tripped. The fault in summer can be caused by solar heat. Change filter cycle or even prop up cover. Also for summer heat you may need to prop the cover open to allow heat to escape.
Lastly but possible is the pcboard has failed and simply keeps producing heat.
If topside temp doesn't match actual, replace temp sensor.
If water isn't cool but trips OH, replace OH sensor.
Lastly focus on pcboard. Contact us for help.

WatchdogPcboard see's an error it can't identifyWatchdog can be triggered by almost any component in the spa. Experience says its likely the TEMP SENSOR.First part to replace is your temperature sensor. It has a low price and almost always resolves.
HOLDToo many functionsActivating too many functions rapidlyThe board is receiving too many button pushes too fast.Slow down
ThermometerPcboardPcboard box is too hotWill automatically stop reading when box cools down.Nothing
PnLPanel ErrorBad connections on plug/socketCommon cause is loose wire. Unplug and replug the topside to the board. ONLY do with power OFF.Reconnect cord(s)
Sn3Temp SensorTemp Sensor is out of proper rangeThe board is seeing the temperature sensor's values are not correct. Replace Temp Sensor

FLtrFilteringUnit is in Filter CycleNothing to fix. Simply informing you it's in normal filter timesNo Fault
HEATHeatingUnit is heating to set pointNothing to fix. Unit is heating. No Fault
FrFreezeWater has dropped below 45 degreesLow speed pump will come on and remain on until spa heats above 48. No Fault. Telling you there may be heating issues.
SOH
OverheatWater is above 113If water IS HOT, must correct cause.
Process to see why the spa overheated. If the topside temp IS correct, then indications are a failed pcboard or topside. If the topside readout isn't correct then usually the temp sensor. Replace
HOH
OverheatWater is above 116Unit will run low speed pump until water cools. If its summer, might be caused by solar heat. Try different filter cycle or length of cycle.
Also try simply propping the spa cover open to allow heat to excape.
During winter, only reason the spa will overheat are the pumps do not turn off (heat from pumps) or heater will not turn on (either the pcboard or topside)
tSTemp SensorTemp sensor is out of rangeThe pcboard will constantly monitor the sensors. This error states bad temp sensorReplace temperature sensor
LSOH SensorOH sensor is out of range. The pcboard will constantly monitor the sensors. This error states bad temp sensorReplace temperature sensor
FLOFlow ErrorNot enough water flow.Unit checks pressure switch to be closed when the heater pump is on. Its not seeing flow.If you DO see water moving, replace pressure or flow switch.
If you do NOT see water moving, replace either low speed jet pump or circ pump (depending on your setup)
